What we collect

Listing information. When a business applies to be listed through our application form, we collect the information provided in that form (such as business name, phone, email, state, cities served, services offered, and any optional details). We may also compile publicly available business information from other sources.

Reviews you submit. When you submit a review of a company, we collect the information you provide: a star rating, category selections, your written comments, your first name, your email address, and (optionally) your city. Your email address is used to help us verify that reviews are genuine and to contact you if needed — it is never displayed publicly. Your first name, city, rating, categories, and comments may be displayed publicly as part of the review once approved.

Basic usage information. Like most websites, our servers and any analytics tools we use may collect standard technical information such as IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and referral source. We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information from Site visitors.

How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

• operate, maintain, and improve the SepticLookup directory;
• review, publish, edit, and manage business listings;
• respond to inquiries and correction or removal requests;
• understand how the Site is used and prevent abuse.

We also use review information to publish approved reviews in the directory, to moderate and verify reviews, to detect and prevent fake or abusive submissions, and to improve our matching and recommendations.

Public display of listing information

Business listing information — including business name, phone, website, service area, and services offered — is displayed publicly in the directory. Businesses that submit an application acknowledge that this information will be shown publicly on the Site.

Reviews are public. Approved reviews — including your first name, city, rating, and comments — are displayed publicly on the directory. Do not include personal or sensitive information in your review text that you don't want shown publicly. Your email address is never published.

Sharing of information

We do not sell personal information. We may share information with service providers who help us operate the Site (such as hosting or analytics), and when required by law or to protect our rights, the rights of users, or the public.

Cookies and analytics

We may use cookies or similar technologies to remember preferences and understand aggregate Site usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

Data retention and security

We keep listing and application information as long as needed to operate the directory and for legitimate business or legal purposes. A business may request correction or removal of its listing at any time by contacting us. We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold, though no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Children

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
